You don’t have to change… just adapt!
For those of us who grew up with old Superman reruns on TV, the scene above in the Superman movie was really funny.
In the original shows, Clark Kent would always look for a phone booth to change into Superman (see picture right). Pretty ridiculous since phone booths were mostly glass, but he was a superhero and we accepted it.
So, when the more “modern” version of Superman came out in 1978, the short style phone booth above was the “modern” version of phone booths and obviously wasn’t going to serve Superman’s purpose. Seriously, the audience roared!
So, what’s my point?
It’s time to adapt, small business owners. Phone booths are virtually gone – although some of us wish there were some around for people to pop into so we wouldn’t have to hear all those conversations… But I digress…

Great idea!
Rotary phones are gone, phone books are a waste of trees, even plain cell phones are becoming dinosaurs. And newspapers… well, it’s more a matter of when they’ll be gone and not whether.
When my son was a toddler around 2000, Disney re-released the old 1940 feature film Pinocchio. When Pinocchio was in a really dangerous spot, my little Robert shouted out-loud in the theater, “PINOCCHIO, DIAL 911!!!”
It’s all about what you grew up with, isn’t it…? But, eventually we adapt. I don’t think anyone wants to go back to a world without microwaves, air conditioning, and the rest.
So why hang on to the old ways and insist that Social Media is still a fad (what closet are you living in, really?). Decide today to take advantage of the vast resources Social Media provides, enjoy the real-time excitement of it, and ultimately, profit from it. We boomers complained for years about how annoying traditional marketing is, so why wouldn’t we all embrace the participatory aspect of Social Media marketing and learn to enjoy it!
Your customers of ALL ages are using it. It is now the new NORM for marketing.
Adapt. Darwin rules.
